Tips for speeding up recovery 

Substitute high-intensity exercises with Isometrics
 and active recovery

Stay active on days in between intense workouts. The opening and closing of your joints can promote blood flow bringing fresh synovial fluids to hydrate, lubricate and nourish sore areas, while removing waste and scar tissue. On a rest day, trade in your dynamic, high-power weight lifting exercises for an active recovery that can include swimming, walking, yoga, stretching or a light jog. Isometrics involve gentle, controlled stretching and strength-building moves and holding a certain position for a longer period of time means your muscles are still engaged, but at a lower intensity.
 

Hydration

Drinking plenty of water during your workout and in the 24 hours after your work out can help flush out toxins from your body and prevent dehydration, which can make muscle soreness more severe.  

Use a foam roller to reduce muscle tension

After an intense bout of exercise, foam rolling is thought to alleviate muscle fatigue and soreness (ie, Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness [DOMS]) and improve muscular performance. If you’re feeling pain or tightness post-workout, give your muscles a massage using a semi-soft foam roller. Spend at least 30-60 seconds minimum rolling your sore muscle groups in the morning and evening of the day following an intense work out.

Wear compression garments after your high intensity workout

Wearing compression garments increases increase the blood circulation and reduce blood lactate for a faster recovery cycle. For extreme workouts such as competitive sport or endurance events compression can be worn overnight to speed up the recovery process and reduce the effect of DOMS.
