Groin pain is a common problem for both professional and recreational athletes who play sports that involve repeated kicking and change of direction. Compression garments are worn by athletes in these sports for reasons such as perceived improved performance, reductions in symptoms such as pain and reduced risk of sustaining an injury.

How to reduce your recurring Osteitis pubis, groin, and hip injuries.

Chronic groin pain, Osteitis Pubis (OP ) and groin issues predominantly occur in sports where athletes engage in kicking, rapid changing of direction and stopping and starting at speed. A key factor in preventing Osteitis Pubis (OP ) is ensuring pelvic integrity -  where the pelvis is correctly aligned, equally strong on both sides, and that there is neither too much or too little movement in the hip and sacroiliac joint.

What You Should Know About Osteitis Pubis (OP)

Osteitis pubis, or OP as it is commonly referred occurs when there is inflammation of the pubic symphysis - the joint between the two major pelvic bones at the front of the pelvis and often manifests in pain in the groin and pelvic area. Recovery from Osteitis Pubis can take several months or longer and this can be a frustrating and painful process, especially if you are an elite athlete. Studies show that wearing compression whilst recovering may facilitate your recovery and get you back to your preferred sport and help prevent further injury.

Pain relief for Osteitis Pubis (OP) and related groin injuries.

Osteitis pubis pain and groin pain can be severe in athletes and can usually be caused by groin strain or pubic overlaod. A groin strain is a muscular tear or rupture to any one of your groin muscles; usually one of the hip adductor muscle group. Your body has five adductor muscles: adductor brevis, longus, magnus, pectineus and gracilis. Any of these groin muscles can be strained but the most common is adductor longus. It is important to warm up these groin muscles. Compression shorts can help to stabilize the pelvis .

Does wearing compression result in improvement in pain and function in athletes with long-standing pelvic/groin pain?

A commonly used piece of equipment (a sacroiliac joint belt) has been traditionally used to help people who were experiencing pain from a hip, pelvic, groin, or lower back injury or pelvic instability.  Whilst effective, this sacroiliac joint belt had its drawbacks. It was difficult to wear whilst sleeping, whilst exercising, was completely unable to be worn on an elite sporting field, and it was bulky and overly visible. With the experience of a physiotherapist who specialized in pelvic and groin conditions in athletes, Supacore developed and patented CORETECH®, a compression product that combined the support of a sacroiliac joint belt into a pair of athletic shorts and tights – thus overcoming the drawbacks previously mentioned. Through testing with athletes and clinic patients, it was clear that the technology worked to decrease pain and recovery time and enabled athletes to return to training and competition with a much lower risk of re-injury. This was especially important when it came to chronic conditions such as Osteitis Pubis, hamstring and groin injury.
