When it comes to injuries, Knights skipper Kurt Gidley has had a horror run in recent seasons.
From foot through to knee and shoulder dramas, Gidley and luck certainly haven’t gone hand-in-hand.
Touchwood, but this is set to change for Gidley and the entire squad in 2014 with the help of the Knights’ new partnership with Supacore as the Club’s official compression partner.
Gidley has already tested the patented ‘Coretech’ shorts and leggings and likes what he sees, much to the delight of Jon Kerr, the Business Development Manager for Supacore.
“For Kurt to say the Coretech leggings were fantastic and he felt really well supported was brilliant,” Kerr enthuses.
“When we were doing our study on the Knights, we had some indications that guys like Kurt in particular coming back from that horrendous foot injury, would benefit from our range.
“We’re hoping our Coretech compression will continue to help Kurt and the rest of the Knights squad throughout the season."
The one-year deal with the Knights will see Supacore supply the players and coaching staff with seamless compression garments to wear during matches, training, recovery and rehabilitation, as the Knights become the flagship NRL Club for this emerging company.
“We are very pleased with Supacore wanting to partner with the Knights as their flagship club of the NRL, I think it speaks volumes for our standing in the game," Knights CEO Matt Gidley said.
The Supacore range first broke out in the market via two-time AFL premiers, the Sydney Swans, whose players were impressed by the products positive impact on their groin and hip injuries.
This feedback from a respected organisation like the Swans has enabled Kerr and his team at Supacore to explore exposure across all major footballing codes, including the NRL and Newcastle.
“The Knights were the one’s that came around as being one that was unique,” Kerr explains.
“It’s a club that’s synonymous with the city and represents the city and the region.
The Knights’ relationship with Supacore will also give local rugby league clubs in the Newcastle competition an opportunity to purchase the same compression gear as their NRL stars.
Gidley says this unique deal for local clubs was one of the major reasons why the Knights decided to team up with Supacore.
