What You Should Know About Osteitis Pubis (OP)

Osteitis pubis, or OP as it is commonly referred occurs when there is inflammation of the pubic symphysis - the joint between the two major pelvic bones at the front of the pelvis and often manifests in pain in the groin and pelvic area. Recovery from Osteitis Pubis can take several months or longer and this can be a frustrating and painful process, especially if you are an elite athlete. Studies show that wearing compression whilst recovering may facilitate your recovery and get you back to your preferred sport and help prevent further injury.

Pain relief for Osteitis Pubis (OP) and related groin injuries.

Osteitis pubis pain and groin pain can be severe in athletes and can usually be caused by groin strain or pubic overlaod. A groin strain is a muscular tear or rupture to any one of your groin muscles; usually one of the hip adductor muscle group. Your body has five adductor muscles: adductor brevis, longus, magnus, pectineus and gracilis. Any of these groin muscles can be strained but the most common is adductor longus. It is important to warm up these groin muscles. Compression shorts can help to stabilize the pelvis .
